Inspiration for a bathroom

There is only one room in our house that we have never, ever shared a picture of on this blog. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever even taken a picture of it. That room is our master bath. It may not be the ugliest bathroom you’ve ever seen, but it might be the most boring. It’s tiny, at 80 inches square, with the smallest standup shower in the world, a layout that doesn’t even make sense, and a depressing color scheme of brown on beige. To make it even more embarrassing, the door fell off the medicine cabinet about a week after we moved in … three years ago. Ugh.

We actually don’t even use our master bathroom. Not long after moving in we discovered a crack in the shower floor and decided it might not be safe to use. Plus I can’t shave my legs in a shower that small! So every day we go downstairs to use the first floor “guest” bathtub, which honestly isn’t a whole lot better. It’s an even smaller room, with cracked, crooked tile and moldy caulk. It’s kinda gross, but at least it’s a cheery color.

So we are desperate. We have two bathrooms that are barely functional, and it’s time we do something about it. We have had two contractors give us estimates and a third one is coming this week. It’s so exciting!! We’ve been spending a lot of time daydreaming about lovely new bathrooms, full of shiny white tile, glass showers, and storage…  but with our small budget, I’ll also just be happy with a medicine cabinet door and a shower big enough to turn around in! I’m not asking for much!

I love glass doors (but not those awful pebbled glass and metal ones that were in all my old apartments). Glass creates the illusion of more space, which is great when you don’t have much space to start with.

We’ll let you know how it goes with this third contractor. Keep your fingers crossed for us!! We also have a landscaper coming out tonight to give us an estimate for a backyard patio. There are so many changes around here and it’s so exciting (and a little scary and stressful). But mostly exciting!!
