Baby’s Room 12-Week Challenge: Week Nine

37 weeks — we made it! Though we have three weeks to go until baby’s due date on August 9, at 37 weeks he is considered sort of full term (depending on who you ask — some doctors say 39 is full, but my doctor is ok with anything past 37). Phew. It’s a huge relief to get to this point … so he can feel free to come anytime! Because my pregnancy is considered high risk, my doctor likely won’t let me go past my due date, which means one way or another we’ll be meeting this little boy at some point in the next three weeks, WOOHOO!

The other good news is we FINALLY have an update in his room! It’s been a whole month since we had something to report, UGH, but the dresser we ordered was finally delivered last week. It took four long, agonizing weeks to get here, but it was worth the wait because we’re really happy with it. There’s plenty of storage space, the changing pad fits perfectly on top, and the modern, clean-line silhouette fits seamlessly with the style of the rest of our home. I just love that hint of wood at the bottom. We also have the new 8×10 natural-fiber rug, which is so soft, and we love that the creamy white adds a lot of dimension and texture to the room.

That means all of the big pieces are now in place — the dresser, crib, chair, side table and rug. We did a bunch of shuffling and rearranging and think we’ve come to a layout we like. The dresser will have the changing pad on top, so we wanted it to be close to the door in case of a diaper emergency. The last thing I want is to do is carry a dripping baby across a white rug! With the crib against the blue wall, we put the rocking chair and side table under the window. You may remember that chair from Joey’s room, so we moved another chair from our family room into her room. (The pink chair ended up staying in our living room!)

The room is still super bare, obviously, so next comes the fun part — decorating! It’s been frustrating to be on hold all this time while we waited for the furniture, so I’m very excited to start making this room come to life with art, books, toys, lighting, bedding, and all those sweet details that really make a baby’s room special. We have so many cute things already and have a couple DIY projects on our docket, as well.

I like that the room is taking a slightly different direction than what I initially envisioned, but still within the parameters of the original nursery moodboard. That’s why I always love starting with a moodboard — to provide a general idea that I can tweak as I go without getting too far off track. I thought this room was going to be really bright and colorful with lots of quirky, tropical details, but it’s becoming much more calm and serene with a ton of white and warm wood accents. “White and wood with small pops of color” is our decorating style in a nutshell, so we love how it’s all coming together in this room. I can’t wait for you to see the rest of the details we have planned!

But guess what? You’re not going to see it until it’s all D-O-N-E, so stay tuned for the final room reveal, possibly after the baby comes. Ooh, the suspense! I mean, there has to be some surprise, right? (But watch for possible sneak peeks on Instagram, @burritosbubbly!)
