It’s all in the details
Our house was built in 1890. We spend a lot of time around here trying to fix old things, so sometimes it’s really nice to take a minute to look at the old details that make it amazing.
The other day I was looking at the hardware on our front doors. They really don’t make them like this anymore. Everything from the doorknobs to the hinges and the locks are intricately designed and absolutely beautiful.
The hinges are my favorite.
Who even pays attention to hinges?!
I love that no detail was too small. There’s a little piece that swings up to cover the key hole.
We’re especially lucky that in all of these 123 years, no one has decided to “modernize” these pieces, so we have the opportunity to enjoy them. And while, yes, we are often busy replacing the old with the new in this house, our intent is always to honor the past and pay attention to the details.
