A Simple Fix to One Entryway Problem

A Simple Fix to One Entryway Problem

Our entryway has always been a bit of a problem area for me. First is the wall color. For some reason I had my heart set on yellow walls, literally from the first time I walked into the house. Now I know that our woodwork looks way better with cool colors — anything with a blue undertone — and the yellow walls are just emphasizing the wood’s yellow/orange undertones. And this room has A LOT of woodwork.

The second problem is our rug. We love our super cute hopscotch rug from CB2, but the goshdarn thing is always sliding around on our wood floor. I swear our puppy Ruby has learned to surf the rug by running and jumping on it! That means I’m pushing the rug back into place multiple times a day … or just leaving it hanging out all crooked, which is just as annoying.

While we can’t seem to decide on a color for the walls, we’ve found a super simple solution to the rug problem. It turns out all we really need is a rug pad! Um, why didn’t we do something about this before?!

Rug Pad USA offers a large collection of rug pads specifically designed for hardwood floors. The rug pads don’t have any harsh chemicals that may damage or stain our wood floors, and everything is manufactured in the USA, which we really appreciate. A ton of eco-friendly options also make us feel better about bringing them into our house.

We decided on the Eco-Solid Non-Slip Rug Pad, in 4×6, and Rug Pad USA trimmed an inch off all around for no additional charge, to make sure it would be a perfect, no-show fit under our rug. We’re really happy with our choice. This rug pad is made with natural soybean oils instead of petroleum-based oils that are bad for the environment, and it’s also naturally mildew and mold resistant, which is great when you’re tracking in snow and rain. We like that this rug pad is 1/8-inch thick, so it gives us some extra cushion without changing the profile of the rug by making it sit too high. Once we put the pad underneath, it disappeared completely.

Of course the absolute best thing is… no more rug surfing! We’ve had our new rug pad down for a few weeks now, and the rug hasn’t moved an inch, even when Ruby has run full-speed across it. I love the security of knowing I’m not going to go sliding across the room when I step on the rug and it looks so much better to always have the rug lying straight. I’ve noticed that the rug pad does tend to collect dust and pet hair, but it is hand washable if we ever want to clean it. Besides, it’s not something you’ll ever really see, so to me it’s not a big deal.

So one problem solved … now what the heck color should we paint the entryway walls??!! Eesh.
