Homemade Sun-dried Tomato Pizza

Homemade Sun-dried Tomato Pizza

One of our favorite things to do is make pizza at home. It’s really fun anytime but especially when we have friends over and everyone can get whatever they want. We have go-to dough and sauce recipes that Andy has made a ton of times, and we enjoy experimenting with different toppings … though Andy almost always just wants plain cheese!

We were recently introduced to RawSpiceBar, a monthly subscription service for small batch, freshly ground spices. Every month they mail you three different packets of fresh spices along with a recipe for each, all chosen by chefs and inspired by the cuisine of different regions around the world. It sounded like it could be a fun way to experiment with new recipes and flavors, and since RawSpiceBar sources, toasts, grinds and blends the spices themselves, we knew that everything would be super fresh and high quality. One of the flavor kits we received was for an Argentinian-inspired sun-dried tomato pizza sauce recipe, which was right up our alley!

We have a really basic pizza sauce recipe that we always use, so we were curious to make something different and see how it compared. This new sauce was made with fresh onion, garlic, sun-dried tomatoes, white wine, tomato paste, and of course the RawSpiceBar flavor kit, which smelled amazing.

And the verdict? So good! This sauce was better than what we usually make! It was rich and deep, with layers of flavor and texture. My only complaint is that I can’t just buy a whole bunch of this particular spice blend to make this sauce again! (Though it did make enough for leftovers.) (Edit: RawSpiceBar now has a spice shop, where you can purchase the sun-dried tomato spice and so many others that sound delicious!)

One of the things that we like about RawSpiceBar is that we can easily adjust the recipes for our own tastes, unlike mail-order meal subscription services that send you all of the pre-measured ingredients. We topped our pizza with basil fresh from our garden, rather than the suggested sausage, and it was great. It’s fun to try new recipes and new flavors so we don’t get in a mealtime rut. Plus, our mailbox has never smelled better!!
