Inspiration: Buffalo Check
I’ve been so inspired by a classic buffalo check pattern lately. It’s the perfect fall/winter pattern. With a history going back to Woolrich Woolen Mills in 1850, originally in red and black, it was the favorite of lumberjacks everywhere. This pattern definitely has an old-fashioned, nostalgic sensibility, but I also love how the bold plaid packs a graphic punch that can feel really modern, especially in black and white.
Buffalo check is often found in rustic and traditional rooms, because it looks great with worn wood and rich leather, and it has that association with lumberjacks. Since our house is pretty modern and not at all rustic, especially with our new high-gloss white kitchen, I love the idea of bringing in this more traditional pattern to add a little character and history to the space.

I think the simple pop of a buffalo check pillow or this super cozy-looking, sherpa-backed throw blanket (#4) from Kohl’s is exactly what we need on the couch, and that bean bag chair (#2) would be perfect in the family room. Or maybe I just need to satisfy my buffalo check cravings with a cute button-down top for myself or and an adorable little dress for Joey. Oh, sigh, that bed from Anthropologie is a gazillion dollars but amaaaaaazing!
And there’s no reason buffalo check needs to be black or red!
