Our Fall & Halloween Living Room Tour!
Hello there! I’m so excited to show you the small changes we’ve made to decorate our house for fall and Halloween. I love updating our living room for the seasons and holidays, but in simple, not totally over-the-top ways, like switching out pillow covers and adding a few pumpkins here and there.
The shift into fall is always inspiring to me. After spending the summer mostly outside and running around, fall makes me want to turn my focus back inside to get cozy and settle in for the long winter months ahead. Give me cozy blankets, delicious candles (this Hearth & Home one is amazing) and allll the pumpkins. I love the coziness and warmth of fall (before it gets actually freezing), and of course I just LOOOOVE Halloween!
I started bringing out Halloween and fall decor, oh, at the beginning of September. I know some people wait until October 1st, but I couldn’t wait that long! We don’t do a ton of stuff because as much as I love the idea of covering every inch of our house in pumpkins and witches and skeletons, the clutter would make me go insane in about five minutes flat.
A couple new pillows, a handful (or two) of pumpkins and a pretty strict color palette of black, white, orange and wood (with a bit of pink, of course!) keeps it simple but festive. Bonus that a lot of these items can last all the way through Thanksgiving, and our new buffalo plaid pillow covers are perfect all winter!
I keep having this idea in my head that I want to make holidays really special for the kids, so I made some fun, super easy little craft projects that I think turned out so fun. One is the book covers I showed earlier in the post, where I literally just wrapped books in kraft paper and freehanded “spooky” book titles on them. Then I used my cricut to cut out silhouettes of some creepy characters to match the silhouettes we had made of Joey and Olly. My great-grandfather’s portrait just adds to the whole Halloween vibe!
If you have eagle eyes you may notice that some things have moved around from photo to photo. That’s because I took some of these photos three weeks ago and some yesterday. I love blogging but taking photos makes me so stressed out!
I’m excited to cozy up this fall with my pumpkins and blankets and hopefully plenty of hot apple cider (if you’re local, you have to try the chaider at Mojo’s in Bay Village — hot apple cider with chai spices, yummm).
Do you change up your decor for fall or go all out for Halloween?
And more importantly, WHAT ARE YOU (OR YOUR KIDS) GOING TO BE FOR HALLOWEEN? Joey has had her heart set on being a bee since the beginning of September. She hasn’t changed her mind even once! Such determination! We have something complementary planned for Olly — and top secret for now, haha! I’m hoping to take some photos this weekend to share early next week.
