The Pretty Plans for the Cabin Bathroom & a Renovation Update
Well hi there! We’ve missed you! A lot has happened in the last two months. And a lot… hasn’t happened. Quarantine is weird like that.
Quick recap: we’ve barely left our house in over 65 days… Andy lost his job last week… Joey “graduated” from her first year of preschool… Andy and I celebrated eight years of marriage this week… we’re still working on a million projects at our house… and we’re also still working on the cabin even though we haven’t been there in over six months!
So the last time we wrote a blog post, way back in March, we broke down the plans for the cabin bathroom renovation. Feel free to go back and check it out. Because of stay-at-home orders, the majority of the renovation had to come to a screeching halt halfway through, but our contractor was able to continue to do what he could, sending one person to the job at a time. So during quarantine, they were able to finish drywall, painting, wallpapering, and we even got all-new windows upstairs and in the kitchen. Before we show you the current bathroom photos courtesy of our contractor, I wanted to break down the overall design plan.

The first thing we fell in love with was the peach fan tile, but we weren’t looking for peach — we wanted blue! Our first trip to the tile store was super frustrating. We left feeling like we had no idea what we wanted to do, didn’t find anything we liked except this random peach tile that didn’t “go” with our plan. But I when I got home I kept looking at the peach tile on the website, and Andy said maybe we could make it work… I went back the next day by myself, worked with the designer at the store and came up with this new plan I love and never would have expected. The peach and blue colors remind me of the amazing sunrises over the lake that you can see from every window.
The peach tile will go on the shower walls. 12×12 tiles in dark blue will be on the majority of the floor. Then we chose lighter blue 2×2 tiles for the shower floor. We just found out this week, though, that the manufacturer of the 2×2 tiles is shut down for quarantine and doesn’t anticipate having the tile until July. BUT they do have 2×2 white tiles in stock, so that’s what we’re going to do instead of the light blue. This project doesn’t need to be delayed any more!
On one wall, we used Hygge & West’s amazingggg mermaid wallpaper in blush and metallic gold. The opposite wall we painted a peachy-pink called Bayview Coral — I mean, I had to with the name!! It might be too much peach but it’s also a bathroom so I maybe don’t even care. I just can’t wait to see it all in person!
I chose the vanity to add a bit of a rustic element, since it is a log cabin after all and I wanted some parts of the room to look as though they could have always been there. We wanted gold fixtures/faucets but ended up preferring the shape of this Moen collection in chrome. I’m all for mixing metals, so we’ll have some gold elements as well.
Here are some photos our contractor sent. Keep in mind he is not a photographer, haha.
The wallpaper!!! Ok, it looks a bit crazy right now but I’m into it. I embrace crazy. In the top right photo, the back wall on the right is the shower. The bottom photo shows where the vanity and toilet will go.
I can’t wait to see it all in person — and finished!! We’ll keep you updated!
