Big Reveal: Our White and Wood Home Office!

Big Reveal: Our White and Wood Home Office!

While our house was nice and clean for the home tour, we took the opportunity to take a bunch of pictures around the house. We’re going to take you on your own virtual home tour over the next few weeks. And first up, the office! I’ve been so anxious to show you this room for weeks, and it’s finally ready!

Well, actually first, the befores…

It was over crowded, disorganized, dysfunctional and not at all pretty. The floor was chipped and peeling and there wasn’t enough storage space for all our stuff (plus we just had way too much stuff to begin with). The first order of business was to get rid of a lot of things by selling, donating, shredding and just plain tossing.

Our office was one of the last rooms we got around to updating. Most of our house had been painted twice by the time we painted this one room for the first time … even though we had blue paint samples up on the wall for years! (Ugh, we are really embarrassing sometimes.) It took us a long time to come up with a plan that we could both agree on, since Andy and I share this room, so as soon as we did, we jumped in right away to make it happen: white, wood and a little bit of gold!

We started by sanding and painting the wood floors using Benjamin Moore Floor & Patio Latex Enamel in low sheen “White” (yes the color is actually called “white”!). Then we painted the walls and ceiling a really nice warm white, Valspar’s Swiss Coffee, in a flat finish. We liked the idea of having a lot of different shades of white, from warm to cool, super crisp white trim with creamy off-white walls, to keep the room from feeling stark and clinical, but allow the natural light to really bounce around. Then we built the desk, refinished the filing cabinet, reorganized everything and created a nice, bright, clean space to work!

I am in LOVE with the light in this room and LOVE sitting at the desk that Andy built. We’ll have a full tutorial on how we built it soon.

We already showed you how we refinished our old metal filing cabinet.

One of my other favorite projects for the room is our vacation photostrip frames, which I’ll also tell you how I made soon. (Hint: they’re so easy!)

We’re so happy with this new office! I think it’s probably the best representation of “us” in the whole house, with lots of white, light woods, clean lines and tons of natural light. It’s a fantastic place to work and blog and find inspiration … or just sit and look out the window!
