Entryway Makeover Update!

Our entry got a makeover!

It’s not every day that you decide to remove storage in a small house, but when the cutest little windows are hiding in the closet in an already dark and dreary hallway, well, goodbye closet!

There used to be a closet next to our front door, but when our kitchen was being renovated, we asked our contractors to remove it, which required taking down the doors, trim and the wall above the doors, and then drywalling the whole area to make a seamless transition with the rest of the hall. We were already replacing the tile in the hallway to match the kitchen floors, so without the closet they were able to do that more easily, too. Even though we lost a bunch of storage space, we love how the new entry looks … Plus, it’s PINK!

There was also a big old boob light above the door … of course.

Once the closet was removed, we still wanted to create the idea of having a dedicated entryway/mud-room area, so a couple weekends ago I painted the far end  of the hall the prettiest blush pink, with the absolute most perfect name for us — “Pink Champagne” by Valspar!! (It’s the same color we painted the ceiling in Joey’s room.) We brought the pink paint onto the ceiling about a quarter of the way through the door so it would look more intentional and interesting. The color is subtle and perfect, and I love how it gives the whole hallway a pale pink glow with the light of those cute windows.

We “finished” it up this weekend with some simple hooks for coats and a pretty rattan mirror. With those adorable little windows, new pink paint, a new light grey tile floor and the new gorgeous flushmount light fixture with a gold interior (love this light! We have four of them and they’re really affordable), the new entry feels modern, bright and airy. We also have a some fun DIY projects in mind for adding more functionality and storage in the future.

I think every entry needs a mirror. It’s your last chance to check yourself before you walk out the door! When I saw this round rattan beauty at Target, I had to have it. I also love how the color looks with the wood on our original 1960s front door.
